Missed the deadline - drat!!

Posted on August 6, 2009

Ok, so it looks like I’ve missed the registration deadline for the half-marathon! Drat! A great idea, I was just a little tardy in executing the plan. However, all is not lost. Some of the greatest discoveries have come out of Plan B. As ever, watch this space! More to come.

Laters.

Back From Hols - And Already I Have Work!

Posted on August 1, 2009

Or, at  least, I would like that to be the case. Just got back from a much-needed break in the sun. Feel refreshed and ready to launch a summer/autumn assault on the industry - creatively speaking, of course. Wheels in motion, stuff to do, that sort of thing. The possibility I am inventing for myself and my life is the possibility of being confident, present & proud. (Oh yes!) Although not in a ‘before the fall’ sense, you understand.

I’m also looking into doing a run of somekind. I already do the annual 5km run for Trees For Cities (for the last 3 years. Check my Links page and click on the Trees For Cites thumbnail for further information). However, I wish to up the ante and take it further… farther. Having missed the deadline for the London Marathon next year I have discoverd www.royalparkshalf.com  A 13.1 mile half-marathon. Might be just what I need, subject to proper training of course. It’s on October 11th which would give me 69 days (2 months, 10 days to get into shape). An idea. There always this year’s 5km Tree run in September to tide me over. I find a run in the fresh air is akin to meditation. Much better for you than the treadmill. You get access to all those electrically charged ions in the atmosphere that are so good for the body and lungs (in the park not the street). A gym membership won’t do that for you. For are we ALL not just energy contained in the shape of a person. Particles whizzing about. In form, through form and out of form? All things are matter, either solid, liquid or gas. All existing relative to something else. Undefineable, Just there. For all to see. Don’t do in order to have so that you can be. Rather be and know that you have. This saves so much time. You will inevitably find that you will be doing what is needed to get whatever it is that you want. (Just be careful what you wish for or you might just get it, a la Pussycat Dolls) For me a run really focuses the mind and turns a choppy sea into a still lake (that runs oh-so-deep). General running/fitness/affirmative-type paragraph, huh? Go for the burn!!

Pen To Paper, Finger To Keyboard… So You Want To Be A Writer?

Posted on July 7, 2009

NEED A VOICE OVER GUY? MOVIE TRAILER MAN? CHECK OUT MY VOICE REEL ON THE VOICE WORK PAGE AND GET IN TOUCH! (You won’t regret it).

COMING SOON - NEW HEADSHOTS! LONG OVERDUE. CHECK BACK FOR FURTHER UPDATES.

Hmmn… it’s the summer. A time for hot weather. A time for holidays. A time where people collectively sweat. (I REALLY get hot! For some, the London heat is still a novelty. I am perenially intrigued as to how ill-equipped we are. Can sweating be a hobby?). Anyway, I suddenly have time on my hands (or at least I shall make the time) and want to write. Put pen to paper (these days it’s finger to keyboard) and see what happens. “Oh, look. There’s a band-wagon! Is Nic jumping on it? Could he be a sheep? A lemming?”, I hear you say. Now hang on, people. I say the world is up for the taking. Just because others have gone before putting things on paper and got them out there, doesn’t mean we all can’t have a go. Better to try and risk succeeding than to never try at all, I say. Besides, when you look at the creative world around us, it seems everything has been done before anyway. Originality is hard to find. Even Michael Jackson’s ‘Smooth Criminal’ video was based on an early Fred Astaire film, for want of a better example. Ok, that’s music and not literature, but you get my drift.

I am to attempt to add another string to my burgeoning bow and write. Be a writer. Put stuff down. On paper. On computer. In this blog? Maybe. But it shall be done. A novel, screenplay, blank verse or prose - you’ll just have to wait for now.

It is my wish to be bold. Nothing in this life was ever achieved with a timid heart. (Boy, I love platitudes!) Well, I guess I had better start my research, make notes, sit alone on a hilltop or in some ubiquitous high street coffee shop and seek inspiration.

What d’you think, chaps?

Have a good summer. Whether you’re working, playing, breaking up, falling in love, learning a language or clearing out the spare room that’s been collecting spiders since the autumn - make it a good one.

Thanks for reading. Oh, and… watch this space.

Update - June ‘09

Posted on June 25, 2009

Hey, guys,

NEED A VOICE OVER GUY? MOVIE TRAILER MAN? CHECK OUT MY VOICE REEL ON THE VOICE WORK PAGE AND GET IN TOUCH! (You won’t regret it).

COMING SOON - NEW HEADSHOTS! LONG OVERDUE. CHECK BACK FOR FURTHER UPDATES.

Sorry I’ve not updated since March! A lot has been going on in my life behind the scenes (of the non-acting variety) which has kept me from the stage and other mediums of performance. I have spent the last 6 months pursuing carpentry-related work (amongst other things). As you can see I have added a carpentry page to the site. I have mainly been doing handyman work as a freelance carpenter, but with the credit crunch, MP’s expenses row and all that quantative easing, it has been hard getting work anywhere, of any kind! Hands up if you agree? It’s affected everyone, everywhere, in every field. Well, in light of the recent hardship, I have decided to let artistic pursuits back into the arena (as if they ever left) to balance things out and add some levity to the mix. I have learned the hard way that you’ve got to be true to yourself at all costs… and follow your dreams. For there is no prison like an unfulfilled soul. No sentence worse than a crushed spirit. No life without hope, ambition and love - in all its forms. (Right, I need a drink! What AM I talking about?).

Seriously, though. In between acting jobs I am available for freelance carpentry work. I am City & Guild qualified in general carpentry and furniture/cabinet-making. At the moment, if you need a door hanging, skirting fixed or even a scratching post made for your cat - I can help. Or if you want to give me a job working for your company, even better. That is, unless the acting thing comes through. (Harrison Ford did this until he got discoverd, so there’s hope for me too!) Acting will always come first though. Always. As my Dad always said, quite simply: “Always follow your dreams”.

I don’t want to look back at my life aged 95 and have regrets. “Hell is an unfulfilled life” That’s what I say. “We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars” said Oscar Wilde. Why don’t we ALL look at the stars. They’re magical. And I think we all deserve a little magic.

‘Til next time.
